TAMPA, Fla. - Hillsborough College claimed another FCSAA Women's Tennis Championship, sweeping St. Petersburg College, 9-0, on Friday afternoon at the Tejas Pradip Patel HC Tennis Center.
The Hawks, who are the defending NJCAA Champions and gunning for a third title in four seasons, looked every bit the part of a team ready to make a deep postseason run.
In singles play, the Hawks lost more than two games in only two of the six matches. At the No. 2 singles, Salomea Jasiczek defeated Daniella Garcia, 6-4, 6-2, and Noah Rojas defeated Anna Schmidt, 7-5, 6-1.
Otherwise, Hillsborough dominated.
Younsoo Cho beat Daniela Vivas, 6-2, 6-1, to win the No. 1 flight, and the FCSAA Player of the Year award.
At No. 3 Singles, Sydney Stark defeated Stefanie Georgieva, 6-1, 6-2; Aisulu Zholbolat defeated Olivia Goldsmith, 6-1, 6-1, to win No. 5 singles; and Emily Lederer defeated Leslee Hendricks, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Hillsborough took all three flights in relatively easy fashion.
At No. 1, Stark and Cho beat Vivas and Garcia, 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 2, Rojas and Zholbolat defeated Georgieva and Goldsmith, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 3, Lederer and Jasiczek beat Schmidt and Ana Lense, 6-0, 6-1.
All six individual champions, as well as the three doubles champions, earned All-FCSAA honors.
By virtue of winning, Hillsborough's Sarah Lytle received the FCSAA Coach of the Year award.
Both teams will participate in the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, May 2-6 in Sumter, S.C.
