COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 4, 2015) - Gulf Coast State College's Chelsey Gibson has been named the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Gibson, on Tuesday, was named the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Gibson, a sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., averaged 27.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in two games during the voting period. She helped Gulf Coast State to wins over nationally-ranked Tallahassee and Pensacola State with back-to-back double-doubles.

Gibson contributed 27 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Tallahassee on January 28 then posted 28 points and 11 boards three days later against the Pirates. For the week, she shot 52.2 percent (24-of-46) from the floor and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from the free throw line. 

Gibson is the fourth Player of the Week recipient from Region 8, joining Thais Oliviera (Central Florida), Evelyn Akhator (Chipola) and Simone Westbrook (Northwest Florida State).
